Problems upgrading 8.5.2 to 8.5.3 designer

Hi. I don't know if this is going to help you - it depends on you having at least one other Notes machine available.
I was running 8.5.2 Designer on Windows XP Pro. I had horrendous problems trying to upgrade to 8.5.3. I and my IT guy did everything we could think of to make this work and either the install failed or else if it succeeded the client hung. In the end my IT guy found a fix as something similar on the Internet. What he had to do was install 8.5.3 designer on another machine where Notes 8.5.3 designer had installed OK (it does not fail everywhere - just on some machines). He then copied the installed programs from the good machine over the top of the Notes and Data directories on my machine. Minor tweaking of the ini file to get the directories right as they differed between the two machines and obviously put the correct id file in place. This unlikely scenario actually worked! The only problem I get now is a Notes login box occasionally popping up that will not accept any password I have ever used but fortunately has an Exit button which makes it go away.
My client is a roaming client and I also had a problem where the log file had errors relating to not validating with the ID vault. I have since fixed these thanks to another posting here and I don't know if this had anything to do with the whole install problem.
